Mobile Avatars...
A quick search reveals that these guys (Veepers) are already doing mobile avatars...look's interesting, though it doesn't have the real-time element.

Clonezip produce mobile avatars in 3gp video format.
Definitely not a 'real time' application, but the realistic quality of the avatars and the fact that they are using users' pics is a novelty.
